So I had an idea tonight for an experimental short film that would be atheist propaganda. That’s the one belief system that’s never got a chance to make some good, old-fashioned propaganda. It would also be kind of Godardian (imagine “GOD IS A CONSTRUCT” flashing in Pierrot le fou-style neons) and there would be b&w portions à la 50’s PSAs.

Or, more generally, I want to make a movie about religion. I haven’t really gotten to do that yet (except when I DP’d this).

What bothers you about his aesthetic? I heard about complaints at the AMC. Projection at the Regal was alright.

I guess a lot of it is just too quirky for me to get behind. His dolly moves are hit or miss for me and the slow-motion part was a little too over-the-top IMHO. I dunno, it’s hard for me to put it into words without using the word “pretentious” and I don’t like using that word because only pretentious people call things pretentious.

That isn’t to say that I’m not pretentious, I came to terms with that back in high school. I just don’t like being obnoxious about it.

Steven Soderbergh is not only a Director and a Writer, he’s also a Director of Cinematography and he goes under an alias named Peter Andrews (for cinematography).

I didn’t know my love for him could increase so greatly.

And he is also Editor, under the alias of Mary Ann Bernard!
